Taman Narmada
Lombokandgilis
Just 10km outside the centre of Mataram, Narmada is a park with great spiritual significance. At approximately two acres in size, it was built in 1727 by the then King of Mataram, Anak Agung Gede Ngurah. Narmada was constructed to resemble the beauty of Rinjani Mountain - which is now used as the resting place of the king - and is in fact a miniature replica of the summit and its crater lake.
Taman Narmada houses a number of impressive attractions inside, including the Pura Kalasa temple, which is used annually for a Balinese ceremony known as Pujawali. You'll also find the Balai Petirtaan spring, which is the meeting point of three sources of water, all from Mount Rinjani. It is believed that if you drink the water and wash your face in the spring then it will bring eternal youth and a long and healthy life. Guides are available throughout the park to provide tours and information about each of its attractions. Please note there is a small entrance fee to enter the park.
