Description
Begin your morning with a visit to a traditional Sasak market, the beating heart of village life in Tetebatu. Walk alongside your local instructor through colorful stalls overflowing with exotic tropical spices, fresh vegetables, and ingredients that have been traded here for generations. Learn how to select the freshest produce, discover exotic Indonesian spices you have never seen before, and understand the story and culture behind each ingredient that makes Indonesian food so unique and unforgettable.
Next, step into the lush garden surrounding a traditional family home and harvest fresh vegetables, herbs, and aromatic spices straight from the earth. Enjoy a true farm-to-table experience that connects you directly to the land and the warm-hearted people of Tetebatu village.
Back in the traditional family kitchen, roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty as your local instructor guides you step by step through the ancient art of Indonesian cooking. Begin by learning how to crack open a fresh coconut and extract pure creamy coconut milk by hand, the soul of Indonesian cuisine. Then discover the magical world of Indonesian spices as you grind, blend, and prepare your own fragrant spice pastes from scratch using a traditional stone mortar and pestle, just as Sasak families have done for centuries.
Together, cook 5 iconic Indonesian dishes: Rendang, a world-famous slow-cooked dish in rich coconut and spices; Curry, a fragrant and warming Indonesian classic; Tempe Manis, sweet caramelized tempeh beloved across the Indonesian archipelago; Gado Gado, a refreshing salad with homemade peanut sauce; and Sate, perfectly grilled skewers with a rich homemade sauce.
At the end of your class, sit back, relax, and enjoy a beautiful feast of everything you have created together, a deeply satisfying and delicious reward after a morning of hands-on cooking surrounded by the magical sounds and smells of tropical Tetebatu.
