Description

Begin your journey by strolling through expansive green rice fields. Feel the gentle breeze, listen to the sound of irrigation water trickling from terrace to terrace, and watch farmers working in harmony with nature. Learn about the rice planting process from start to harvest and understand the vital role of rice fields in the lives of the Tetebatu community. Next, head to a mixed plantation area filled with coffee, clove, vanilla, cocoa, and other aromatic spices. Smell the freshly picked cinnamon bark, taste the bittersweet cocoa fruit, and learn the traditional methods of coffee processing, from drying to roasting. Experience the natural process, all done manually using wood stoves and simple tools. Visit the homes of female weavers who have learned the art of weaving from their mothers since childhood. Discover the intricate process of weaving using traditional gedogan tools, requiring precision and patience. Learn about thread arrangement techniques, motif selection, and the philosophy behind each songket pattern. Try your hand at bamboo crafts, a local tradition that remains an integral part of the Sasak people's daily life. Visit a bamboo craftsman's home and learn to identify the types of bamboo used, how to cut, split, smooth, and assemble them into simple products like woven items, food containers, or small souvenirs. Visit a traditional pottery workshop and see how clay is transformed into beautiful shapes like jugs, bowls, or decorative ornaments. Watch artisans demonstrate basic pottery wheel techniques, clay shaping, and surface decoration. Try your hand at pottery, feeling the soft clay in your hands and learning how a gentle touch can change its form. After experiencing these cultural activities, enjoy a light trek to the black monkey forest (lutung), a small waterfall, or a clear river flowing between cliffs. Along the way, observe wildlife such as endemic birds, colorful butterflies, and rice eels or snails often used as local food ingredients.
