Description
Begin your day with a pickup from your accommodation in either Walvis Bay or Swakopmund. After a short briefing, head towards the Namib Naukluft National Park.
Make your first stop at the tranquil Walvis Bay Lagoon, a protected RAMSAR site, home to up to 250,000 flamingos, along with pelicans, avocets, and a wide variety of other birdlife.
Next, visit the famous Walvis Bay Salt Works, the largest solar evaporation salt refinery in Africa, known for its striking pink salt pans, refining up to 750,000 tons of salt per year.
From there, head towards the beach for a fun drive towards Sandwich Harbour. Explore the desert while looking for hyalite fossils and admiring the unique pink sand formations.
Enter the Namib Naukluft National Park, the largest park in Africa at 49,000 square kilometers, which also marks the old border line between Namibia and South Africa. After some coastal driving, reach the narrow passage close to Sandwich Bay. This is where the huge Namib dunes meet the Atlantic. Have the opportunity for photographs here, and then continue to Sandwich Bay.
Once at Sandwich Lagoon, have time to explore this amazing landscape. Climb the 100-meter-tall dunes in search of the best view. If the weather permits, set up lunch here, or find a secluded spot in the desert if the weather is unpleasant. Enjoy some dune boarding while you lunch. After lunch, take a slow drive back towards your accommodation.
