Visa Free Entry
There are 11 coutries and terrorities who do not require a visa to enter Indonesia. They are eligable for the 'visa free' facility and require a valid passport with a minimum of 6 months validity from date of entry into Indonesia. On entry they will be granted a 30 day non-extendable Short Visit Permit without charge.

Short Visit Tourist Visa
A Short Visit Tourist Visa also known as a Visa On Arrival(VOA) is obtained on arrival at most airports and seaports in Indonesia. The cost is US$35 and it is handy to have this amount with you in cash when you arrive. Indonesian Rupiah are also accepted. The visa is valid for a 30 day single entry stay and can be extended at the Immigration Office for a maximum of 30 days. The VOA cannot be extended to obtain an immigration permit. It is not advisable to overstay your visa, and it is important to take note of your departure date. If you do wish to extend your visa for another 30 days this should be done at least two days before your visa is due to expire. If you do over stay the charge is IDR300 000 per day up to 60 days of overstay and for more than 60 days one will inccur a 5 year prison sentence or a fine of IDR25 000 000.  It is very easy to extend your visa on your own. Their are companies that will do it for you, but there is no need to pay extra to them to extend your visa. It is a simple process, you need to go to the Immigration office in Mataram and walk up the stairs when you enter the building. To obtain the visa extension application forms go to the desk straight ahead of you as the staff sitting behind the desk for the forms. They are written in English and Indonesian. Fill them in and then submit your application at the same place you obtained the forms . The staff can speak English and are very helpful. It takes a day to process and costs Rp300 000.

Social/Cutural Visit Visa
This visa is obtained at the Indonesian Embassy in your country before departure. It is a 60(sixty) day single entry visa issued for social/cultural visits such as visiting friends/family, exchange visits between educational institutions or attending reserach and training programmes in Indonesia. The visa is a single-entry visa valid for a maximum of 60 days. This can be extended at an Immigration Office in Indonesia for a total of 120 days , however you can only extend up to 30 days at a time. (Once the 30 days are up you then extend for a further 30 days up to a maximum of 120 days). To apply for the visa at your nearest embassy you will need a letter from your sponsor and the visa takes 2 to 5 days to process.
